KDF kills 14 al shabaab in Kismayu
Kenya Defence Forces yesterday gunned down 14 al shabaab militias at the port of Kismayu.
In a release to newsrooms Colonel Cyrus Oguna said KDF was carrying out routine patrol when they encountered the militia.
“14 Al Shabaab militants were neutralized and 10 others injured when a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Naval Ship engaged the militants at an Al Shabaab seaport watch station yesterday,” says Oguna.
The incident occurred when a KDF Naval Ship was conducting routine sea patrol in the vicinity of port of Kismayu. The militants opened fire at the ship prompting retaliatory naval gunship fire. During the engagement two on-shore structures were also destroyed.
This is the first time is as many months that a major announcement of KDF engagement with Al shabaab has been announced. Last week Amison forces which now oversees the Operation Linda Nchi announced they had captured Afgoye a key Al shabaab town.
All guns are now focused on Kismayu which is a key port and al shabaab life line.
Elsewhere in Fafadun, Gedo region, 20 Al Shabaab militants with 13 AK 47 rifles surrendered to KDF.
