4 Kenya soldiers injured,9 al shabaab killed in Elwak battle

Nine Al Shabaab soldiers have been killed in Elwak by Kenya army and TGF forces

Four Kenyan soldiers were injured one seriously in a fierce exchange with Al shabaab in Elwak,a border town, 180kms from Wajir town. During the exchange 9 al shabaab militia were killed.

“On 12 November at 2330hrs the KDF and TFG while on patrol duty bumped into an Al Shabaab camp,shot dead 9 of them. KDF confiscated ammunition, weapons and Rocket Propelled Grenades from the Al Shabaab camp,”said Military spokesman Emmanuel Chirchir in a statement.

Chirchir said several Al Shabaab militiamen escaped with injuries and are likely to be treated in areas of ELWAK.He urged Kenyans living in the areas of the attack to alert the military of people seeking treatment with bullet wounds.

Out of the four injured officers three were treated in thier respectives units while one who was critically injured was flown to Garissa for further treatment.

After the attack the army carried out a crackdown for Al shabaab in Elwak.The raid was conducted by KDF following tip off that Shabaab was buying arms.

“During the raid in El Wak we recovered two AK 47, 191 rounds of 5.56mm, 2 RPG Ammo, one Bayonet and cash USD 9,200,” said Chirchir.

Four men were arrested during the raid, one Kenyan and three Somalis. The fighting comes at atime when the military has warned of increased al shabaab propaganda that has claimed of killing Kenyan soldiers.

The Operation Linda nchiĀ  started on October 15 after the kidnapping of tourists in Lamu. Kenya plan to have a buffer zone along the Somalia border.
