Kenya military has  killed 75 al shabaab militia in the battle of  Bales Qoogani which is the second town to be taken from the Somalia rebel group.

“The Kenyan defence forces has not incurred any casualties so far, but the last two battles especially the one for Tabta around 75 militias were killed,” said Lt colonel Jeff Nyaga commander of the Linda nchi operation(The code name given to the al shabaab operation).

Kenya and TGF has now captured five towns since Saturday when Internal Security minister George Saitoti and Defence minister Yusuf Hajji declared war on Al Shabaab.

The Kenyan army is using both ground and air strikes . The troops guns are now aimed at Al shabaab strong hold of Kismayu. Media reports says the fiercest battle will be fought in Kismayu where the escaping militia have regrouped waiting for the Kenyan soldiers.

Kenya is said to be providing logistical support to the TGF and Ras Kamboni militia that operate in the southern part of Somalia.

Kenyan journalists on tour of the war zone were unable to land at Tabta after heavy gunfight that rocked the town. Heavy rains have also slowed down the movement of troops towards Kismayu.

The country drive to war is to create a buffer zone along the Kenya Somalia border that has seen her citizens terrorized by the militia group. The latest affront was the kidnappings of a British national(Kiwayu),a french woman(Manda) and MSF workers at Dadaab camp.
